Shining Fury A Tale From The Tome Of Bill Rick Gualtieri 9781533003805 Books
Rick Gualtieri is a good writer. His stories are fun, snarky and worth the read. I stumbled on his books early this Summer and have read all his works as of September. I purchased "Vampire Bill" as an audio book just to pass the time on my ride to and from work. I found myself pleasingly surprised to like the protagonist and all the supporting characters in the first as well as the other 8 books. "Shinning Fury" is the story of the "Icon" and mythic enemy of Bill the Vampire (and all vampires). It fit perfectly between books 6 and 7 of the Vampire Bill series. In the audiobook, the reader was entertaining. Though i missed Bill and his constant companions, Sally, Tom and Ed, Sheila held her own in this backstory. Though I admit, Sheila can be a little infuriating with her self doubt, but her belief in her roll as "savior" of humanity keeps her moving forward. The big plus was her new witch friend who added snark and saved the story from being boring.I can't say this is the best work Gualteri has published but if you've read the Tome of Bill series you will enjoy the story.

Shining Fury A Tale From The Tome Of Bill Rick Gualtieri 9781533003805 Books Reviews
Shorter book that augments the Bill the Vampire storyline. If you haven't read those books first, start with them. This is a great character development story for one of Bill's love interests, Sheila. The story intertwines with the events in book #7, The Wicked Dead, and fills in the gaps from where she veers out of the main story in that book. The book, and series overall, is more oriented towards older teens and adult readers with its irreverent style and ribald humor. Highly recommended as well as the book, Sunset Strip, about the Sally character in the Bill the Vampire stories.
This is a great series. I am so glad that I took a chance and brought it. I purchased the entire series that is available at this point and cannot wait until the rest come out. Rick Gualtieri has a great sense of humor not only with his main character Bill, but with his supporting cast as well. They are well developed and have a great sense of humor as well (Gan with her Sponge Bob back pack is an example). I definitely recommend this series.
I normally love Bill the vampire stories. This one is from the Icon's point of view and whilst it was informative, it just didn't seem to have the same impact on me as when Bill is narrating the story.
Interesting to see some more of Christy's coven and the twist with the witch types.
I'll be waiting for the next Bill the Vampire episode to see how this effects the series.
The Tome of Bill books are JUST.FREAKIN'.AWESOME!! Rick Gaultieri rocks to the point that there are not enough adjectives to describe his rockin' awesomeness. And no, Rick didn't pay me for this completely unbiased review (well, only in Jersey money and you know what that's worth), and I bought every book with my hard-earned cash. Original, funny, mildly violent (they mostly only kill monsters), hinting at sex, but not graphic, and all in general a great read. Oh, and you'll probably like Bill and his room mates, but some of the other vampires? Staking is too good for them.
I enjoyed Sheila's side in this book. Very toned down in the language (which I surprisingly missed cause Bill and his posse cuss too much). Enjoyed the battles she and her little crew had to deal with. Did not realize she had her own Mr. Hyde persona that she had to keep in check like Bill does just thought she had to learn to control her power. Also nice to see how Bill affects her cause in the other books she is usually very cool and unreadable. Overall, fun read and I cannot wait for the finale.
This is probably my least favorite book of the series so far. I really missed Bill. The book was mainly a battle and it didn't grab me. It wasn't bad but I really like Bill and Sally. Sheila is a little boring as the main character though I do like her in the series. I'm looking forward to the next book in the regular series and I did like getting some insight into the Icon.
I'd actually give this one a 2.5 stars if I could, but since I love the series I'll round up. This is the first time I have been disappointed with one of Rick Gualtieri's books. I appreciate the effort to flesh out the whorl dog Bill the vampire, but in this case it didn't work for me. Sheila is an interesting support character but she can't carry her own book. This one just didn't work. The problem is that nothing really seems to happen is this book. This is no 'epic' confrontation, no major quest, no major hurdles to overcome. Sheila herself makes some observations at one point in the book that she basically is fighting minions, and not dong a very good job of it. As the 'hero' of this story, she is less than heroic. Sorry Rick, but IMO Sheila isn't ready for primetime. That being said, I'm still looking forward to more Bill the Vampire books!
